While every house in Slovenia has a civic address, many houses also carry a household name. These names are how other people typically referred to that family. This house originally carried the name of Oberšanovi. At this time, it is unknown what the origin of this name is.
Through the period of our studies, we have found three distinct houses which originally carried the Šutej surname in Sečje Selo. This is the first of the three houses (in order of house address).
The oldest record we have found to date for a person from this house is for the wife of the patriarch Marija Bahorič b. 1786. With her husband, she had at least 3 children, including:
Marija Bahorič m. ca. 1818 to her second husband Miha Verderbar. Together, they had at least 2 children, including:
1C. Johan Verderbar b. 1819, m. ca. 1848 to Barbara Belavič (Podklanec 2) — they remained at this house.
1D. Barbara Verderbar b. 1822, had 1 illegitimate child.
Matija Šutej [1B] and his wife Katarina Malešič had 6 children, including:
2A. Ana Šutej b. 1853, m. 1872 to Nikolaj Radovič (Radovičev).
2C. Nikolaj Šutej b. 1859, m. 1882 to Katarina Moravec (Bahoričeva) — they lived at Sečje Selo 20.
2D. Johan Šutej b. 1868, died at the age of 21. At this time, it is unknown if he was ever married or had children.
Johan Verderbar [1C] and his wife Barbara Belavič had 5 children, including:
2E. Matija Verderbar b. 1849, m. 1872 to Marija Valentič (Sela 7) — they remained at this house.
2F. Katarina Verderbar b. 1856, m. 1873 to a man from Sela 7.
Matija Verderbar [2E] and his wife Marija Valentič had 7 children, including:
3A. Matija Verderbar b. 1873, m. 1907 to Marija Špelič (Drenovec 3) — they remained at this house.
3B. Franca Verderbar b. 1877, m. 1896 to Miha Puhek (Tkalčev) — they lived at Sečje Selo 19.
3C. Ana Verderbar b. 1882, m. 1902 to Jože Jugovič (Drenovec 2).
3D. Miha Verderbar b. 1886. At this time, it is unknown what happened to him afterwards.
