While most houses in Slovenia carry a household name, there are some houses which do not exist anymore and were deserted many years before anyone was aware of their existence. The household names for these houses is therefore lost as it was not documented anywhere either. In the case of some smaller settlements such as Ogulin, Drežnik and Kovačji Grad, household names were never widely adopted as there was no need to differentiate families from each other. In the case of Kovačji Grad, despite the fact that 4 of the 8 houses had people with the surname of Šutej, there is very limited repetition of surnames leading to the use of surnames as the “household name”. This house is one of the exceptions in Kovačji Grad. This household name is Novoseli. This name was usually given to a family that was newly settled in a given village.
Through the period of our studies, we have found four distinct houses which originally carried the Šutej surname in Kovačji Grad. This is the third of the four houses (in order of house address).
