While most houses in Slovenia carry a household name, there are some houses which do not exist anymore and were deserted many years before anyone was aware of their existence. The household names for these houses is therefore lost as it was not documented anywhere either.
Through the period of our studies, we have found seven distinct houses which originally carried the Balkovec surname in Hrast. This is the seventh of the seven houses (in order of house address). The Balkovec surname is only originally found in Hrast and Zilje (including Balkovci).
This house had several different families living in it over the period of our research. The original Balkovec family was only here for the first generation of that time period.
The oldest record we have found to date for a person from this house is for the wife of the patriarch Katarina Pavlešič b. 1790. Together, they had at least 1 child, including:
1A. Johan Balkovec b. 1818. At this time, it is unknown what happened to him afterwards.
Upon the death of her husband, Katarina Pavlešič m. ca. 1840 to her second husband Jurij Špelič (Drenovec 1) — they lived at Drenovec 1.
Jurij Brožič and his wife Margareta Jaketič had at least 1 child, including:
Margareta Jaketič m. 1878 to her second husband Miha Flajnik (Bartolov). Together they had 1 child:
2B. Marija Flajnik b. 1867, died at the age of 70. At this time, it is unknown if she was ever married or had children.
Miha Flajnik m. 1918 to his second wife Marija Gorše (Hrast 24) but did not have any children with her.
Nikolaj Balkovec [1A] and his wife Marija Flajnik had 4 children, including:
2A. Johan Balkovec b. 1846, m. 1875 to Katarina Hudelja (Knežina 1) — they lived at Hrast 46.
