While every house in Slovenia has a civic address, many houses also carry a household name. These names are how other people typically referred to that family. This house originally carried the name of Polančevi. At this time, the origin of this name is unknown to us. We do suspect that the first patriarch we found in this house may be the brother of Matija Balkovec of Hrast 14 and Miha Balkovec of Hrast 31 which also has a household name of Polančevi.
Through the period of our studies, we have found seven distinct houses which originally carried the Balkovec surname in Hrast. This is the sixth of the seven houses (in order of house address). The Balkovec surname is only originally found in Hrast and Zilje (including Balkovci).
The oldest record we have found to date for a person from this house is for Johan Balkovec b. 1788. He married Marija Žepuhar b. 1790. Together, they had at least 4 children, including:
1A. Nikolaj Balkovec b. 1812, m. ca. 1846 to Marija Flajnik (Juničarova) — they remained at this house.
1B. Jurij Balkovec b. 1821. At this time, it is unknown what happened to him afterwards.
