This area of Zilje has no specific name other than Gornje Zilje, we have added “Central” just as a descriptor.
This part of Gornje Zilje is among the oldest, most notably the households along the old road (which in this area is the same as the new road). This is likely where the original Čemas and Brožič households existed. Neither of the families are recorded in any of the tax registers, so they either arrived in Zilje after 1700, or were not subjects of the local lord. We have found records of individuals with surname Čemas in Zilje during the period of the tax registers, so it is likely they were freemen.
