While most houses in Slovenia carry a household name, there are some houses which do not exist anymore and were deserted many years before anyone was aware of their existence. The household names for these houses is therefore lost as it was not documented anywhere either. The house at Podklanec 1 is one of those houses.
Much of our research has shown that the house with the first address in most villages is one of some significance. It was likely a house which the mayor or village governor may have lived in at some point or even the church in some villages such as Vinica which is where the parish sits for the surrounding area. Unfortunately, we have not yet found any information to give us a good indication of what significance Podklanec 1 held.
Through the period of our studies, we have found three distinct houses which originally carried the Medved surname in Podklanec. This is the first of the three houses (in order of house address). The Medved surname is only originally found in Podklanec and across much of the Sinji Vrh parish.
The oldest record we have found to date for a person from this house is for Nikolaj Medved (Medvedov) b. 1810. He married Katarina Radovič b. 1809. Together, they had at least 11 children, including:
1A. Ana Medved b. 1832, had 2 illegitimate children.
1B. Nikolaj Medved b. 1845, m. 1873 to Marija Puhek (Tkalčeva from Sečje Selo) — they remained at this house.
1C. Barbara Medved b. 1847, had 3 illegitimate children.
Nikolaj Medved [1B] and his wife Marija Puhek had 5 children, including:
2A. Marija Medved b. 1874, m. in Milani.
2B. Ana Medved b. 1877, had 1 illegitimate child.
2C. Katarina Medved b. 1879, had 1 illegitimate child.
2D. Nikolaj Medved b. 1881, m. 1908 to Johana Stegne (Bubašov from Golek) — they lived in the United States.
2E. Jurij Medved b. 1884, died at the age of 71 in Spahiči. At this time, it is unknown if he was ever married or had children.
Nikolaj Medved [2D] and his wife Johana Stegne had 1 child:
3A. Marija Medved b. 1909. At this time, it is unknown what happened to her afterwards.
