While every house in Slovenia has a civic address, many houses also carry a household name. These names are how other people typically referred to that family. This house originally carried the name of Polančevi. At this time, the origin of this name is unknown to us. We do suspect that the first patriarch we found in this house may be the brother of Miha Balkovec of Hrast 31 which also has a household name of Polančevi.
Through the period of our studies, we have found seven distinct houses which originally carried the Balkovec surname in Hrast. This is the fourth of the seven houses (in order of house address). The Balkovec surname is only originally found in Hrast and Zilje (including Balkovci).
The oldest record we have found to date for a person from this house is for Matija Balkovec b. 1787. He married Barbara Bahorič b. 1787. Together they had 9 children, including:
1A. Ana Balkovec b. 1810, m. ca. 1837 to Johan Grguraš (Grgurašev from Golek).
1B. Barbara Balkovec b. 1811, m. 1839 to Nikolaj Brožič (Grgurašev from Golek) — they lived at Podklanec 34.
1C. Marija Balkovec b. 1817, died at the age of 51. At this time, it is unknown if she was ever married or had children.
1D. Johan Balkovec b. 1822. At this time, it is unknown what happened to him afterwards.
1E. Matija Balkovec b. 1824. At this time, it is unknown what happened to him afterwards.
1F. Jurij Balkovec b. 1826, m. 1884 to Barbara Kasun (Veliki Jadrč 48) — they lived at Perudina 25.
