While every house in Slovenia has a civic address, many houses also carry a household name. These names are how other people typically referred to that family. This house originally carried the name of Panjanovi. This household name is directly derived from the surname of the family that lived here.
Through the period of our studies, we have found only one house in Hrast with the Panjan surname. To date, this surname has only been found in Stara Lipa.
The oldest record we have found to date for a person from this house is for Marko Panjan b. 1760. He with his wife had at least 4 children, including:
1A. Jurij Panjan b. 1785, m. ca. 1802 to Katarina Mihelčič — they remained at this house.
1B. Marko Panjan b. 1802. At this time, it is unknown what happened to him afterwards.
1C. Johan Panjan b. 1803, m. ca. 1839 to Marija Flajnik — they remained at this house.
1D. Barbara Panjan b. 1807. At this time, it is unknown what happened to her afterwards.
Jurij Panjan [1A] and his wife Katarina Mihelčič had 4 children, including:
2A. Jurij Panjan b. 1803, died at the age of 47. At this time, it is unknown if he was ever married or had children.
2B. Matija Panjan b. 1807, m. ca. 1809 to Marija Štajdohar (Kalihčana) — they remained at this house.
2C. Katarina Panjan b. 1809, m. ca. 1839 to Matija Flajnik (Turmarov).
2D. Peter Panjan b. 1818, died at the age of 37. At this time, it is unknown if he was ever married or had children.
Johan Panjan [1C] and his wife Marija Flajnik had 5 children, including:
2E. Ana Panjan b. 1848, m. 1868 to Miha Pavlešič (Kosližekev from Perudina).
Matija Panjan [2B] and his wife Marija Štajdohar had 6 children, including:
3A. Matija Panjan b. 1839, m. 1861 to Marija Flajnik (Kaplanova) — they remained at this house.
3B. Ana Panjan b. 1843. At this time, it is unknown what happened to her afterwards.
3C. Miha Panjan b. 1846, m. 1880 to Marija Flajnik (Juničarjeva) — they lived at Hrast 47.
Matija Panjan [3A] and his wife Marija Flajnik had 8 children, including:
4A. Marija Panjan b. 1861, m. 1882 to Jurij Šveb (Švebov from Učakovci)
4B. Johan Panjan b. 1867. At this time, it is unknown what happened to him afterwards.
4C. Peter Panjan b. 1871. At this time, it is unknown what happened to him afterwards.
At this point, the Panjan lineage ends at this house. The daughter of Marija Panjan [4A] and Jurij Šveb, Frančiška b. 1890, later moved in with her husband Johan Šutej (Vukovci 24). He died and she remarried Franc Karin (Gornji Karinov from Podklanec). He too died at the age of 23 at which point, for reasons unknown to us, Frančiška Šveb left to the United States. With Frančiška no longer living here, her sister, Barbara b. 1893 moved in with her husband Josip Tonković (Otok na Dobri 37).
Josip Tonković and his wife Barbara Šveb had 6 children.
