It is the seat of the Municipality of \u010crnomelj. It lies on the left bank of the Lahinja and Dobli\u010dica rivers. The municipality is at the heart of the area of <a title=\"Bela krajina (White Carniola)\" href=\"http:\/\/gfamilytree.com\/history\/the-places-we-come-from\/bela-krajina-white-carniola\/\">White Carniola<\/a>, the southeastern part of the traditional region of Lower Carniola. It is now included in the Southeast Slovenia statistical region.
