These names are how other people typically referred to that family. This house has the name of Matkovi. This name is likely derived from the name of the patriarch or of the man who originally inhabited this house, Matija.<\/p>\n<p>Through the period of our studies, we have found seven houses which originally carried the \u017dagar surname in <a href=\"http:\/\/gfamilytree.com\/history\/the-places-we-come-from\/bela-krajina-white-carniola\/crnomelj\/vinica\/damelj\/\">Damelj<\/a>. This is the last of the seven houses (in order of house address). The \u017dagar surname is a common surname found in many parts of Slovenia and not particularly unique to <a href=\"http:\/\/gfamilytree.com\/history\/the-places-we-come-from\/bela-krajina-white-carniola\/crnomelj\/vinica\/damelj\/\">Damelj<\/a> or this region.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>The oldest record we have found to date for a person from this house is for Miha \u017dagar b. 1770. Together with his wife, they had at least 3 children, including:<\/p>\n<p>1A. Ana \u017dagar b. 1797. At this time, it is unknown what happened to her afterwards.<\/p>\n<p>1B. Johan \u017dagar b. 1801, m. ca. 1828 to Ana Fortun (<a href=\"http:\/\/gfamilytree.com\/history\/the-places-we-come-from\/bela-krajina-white-carniola\/crnomelj\/vinica\/damelj\/the-people\/damelj-9-stankovi\/\">Stankova<\/a>) &#8212; they remained at this house.<\/p>\n<p>1C. Matija \u017dagar b. 1805, m. to Barbara \u017dagar.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Miha \u017dagar m. ca. 1810 to his second wife Barbara Verbanec b. 1788. Together, they had at least 7 children, including:<\/p>\n<p>1D. Lucija \u017dagar b. 1811, m. ca. 1839 to Marko Fortun (<a href=\"http:\/\/gfamilytree.com\/history\/the-places-we-come-from\/bela-krajina-white-carniola\/crnomelj\/vinica\/vukovci\/the-people\/vukovci-15-priblanovi\/\">Priblanov<\/a> from <a href=\"http:\/\/gfamilytree.com\/history\/the-places-we-come-from\/bela-krajina-white-carniola\/crnomelj\/vinica\/vukovci\/\">Vukovci<\/a>) &#8212; they lived at <a href=\"http:\/\/gfamilytree.com\/history\/the-places-we-come-from\/bela-krajina-white-carniola\/crnomelj\/vinica\/otok\/the-people\/otok-23-fortunovi\/\">Otok 23<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>1E. Jurij \u017dagar b. 1813, m. 1842 to Ana Per\u0161eti\u010d &#8212; they lived at <a href=\"http:\/\/gfamilytree.com\/history\/the-places-we-come-from\/bela-krajina-white-carniola\/crnomelj\/vinica\/damelj\/the-people\/damelj-31\/\">Damelj 31<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>1F. Jo\u017ee \u017dagar b. 1826, m. 1866 to Marija \u017dagar (Rim 2) &#8212; they lived at <a href=\"http:\/\/gfamilytree.com\/history\/the-places-we-come-from\/bela-krajina-white-carniola\/crnomelj\/vinica\/damelj\/the-people\/damelj-31\/\">Damelj 31<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>1G. Miha \u017dagar b. 1833. At this time, it is unknown what happened to him afterwards.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>Johan \u017dagar [1B] and his wife Ana Fortun had 8 children, including:<\/p>\n<p>2A. Johan \u017dagar b. 1829, m. 1861 to Ana \u017dagar (<a href=\"http:\/\/gfamilytree.com\/history\/the-places-we-come-from\/bela-krajina-white-carniola\/crnomelj\/vinica\/damelj\/the-people\/damelj-2-lovrecovi\/\">Lovre\u010dova<\/a>) &#8212; they remained at this house.<\/p>\n<p>2B. Matija \u017dagar b. 1832, m. 1861 to Barbara Pavleti\u010d (Pavleti\u010dova from <a href=\"http:\/\/gfamilytree.com\/history\/the-places-we-come-from\/bela-krajina-white-carniola\/crnomelj\/vinica\/nova-lipa\/\">Nova Lipa<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>2C. Peter \u017dagar b. 1834, m. 1876 to Marija Horvat (<a href=\"http:\/\/gfamilytree.com\/history\/the-places-we-come-from\/bela-krajina-white-carniola\/crnomelj\/vinica\/kot-pri-damlju\/the-people\/kot-pri-damlju-24-jureci\/\">Jure\u010dova<\/a> from <a href=\"http:\/\/gfamilytree.com\/history\/the-places-we-come-from\/bela-krajina-white-carniola\/crnomelj\/vinica\/kot-pri-damlju\/\">Kot<\/a>) &#8212; they lived at <a href=\"http:\/\/gfamilytree.com\/history\/the-places-we-come-from\/bela-krajina-white-carniola\/crnomelj\/vinica\/otok\/the-people\/otok-21-ivancevipoljancevi\/\">Damelj 34<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>2D. Jurij \u017dagar b. 1846, m. 1879 to Marija Cajnar (Damelj pri Lukovdol 2).<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>Johan \u017dagar [2A] and his wife Ana \u017dagar had 6 children, including:<\/p>\n<p>3A. Johan \u017dagar b. 1875, m. 1897 to Ana \u0160utej (<a href=\"http:\/\/gfamilytree.com\/history\/the-places-we-come-from\/bela-krajina-white-carniola\/crnomelj\/vinica\/vukovci\/the-people\/vukovci-9-farici\/\">Fari\u010deva<\/a> from <a href=\"http:\/\/gfamilytree.com\/history\/the-places-we-come-from\/bela-krajina-white-carniola\/crnomelj\/vinica\/vukovci\/\">Vukovci<\/a>) &#8212; they remained at this house.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>Johan \u017dagar [3A] and his wife Ana \u0160utej had 3 children:<\/p>\n<p>4A. Stanislav \u017dagar b. 1895 in <a href=\"http:\/\/gfamilytree.com\/history\/the-places-we-come-from\/bela-krajina-white-carniola\/crnomelj\/vinica\/damelj\/the-people\/damelj-14-ivanovi\/\">Damelj 14<\/a>, died at the age of 39. At this time, it is unknown if he was ever married or had children.<\/p>\n<p>4B. Franc \u017dagar b. 1898, m. 1922 to Barbara Pupi\u010d (Zdihova 22) &#8212; they remained at this house.<\/p>\n<p>4C. Antonija \u017dagar b. 1904, m. 1936 to Franc Karin (<a href=\"http:\/\/gfamilytree.com\/history\/the-places-we-come-from\/bela-krajina-white-carniola\/crnomelj\/vinica\/hrast-pri-vinici\/the-people\/hrast-pri-vinici-4\/\">Hrast pri Vinici 4<\/a>) &#8212; they lived at <a href=\"http:\/\/gfamilytree.com\/history\/the-places-we-come-from\/bela-krajina-white-carniola\/crnomelj\/vinica\/damelj\/the-people\/damelj-6-sostari\/\">Damelj 6<\/a>.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>Franc \u017dagar [4B] and his wife Barbara Pupi\u010d had 4 children.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>While every house in Slovenia has a civic address, many houses also carry a household name.
