While every house in Slovenia has a civic address, many houses also carry a household name. These names are how other people typically referred to that family. This house has the name of Fortunovi. Given the name of the house being the same of the family living here, it is quite possible that this may have been the original Fortun family in Damelj.<\/p>\n
Through the period of our studies, we have found four houses which originally carried the Fortun surname in Damelj<\/a>. This is the second of the four houses (in order of house address). The Fortun surname is not very common in Damelj<\/a> but is found sporadically across the parishes of Vinica<\/a>, Dragatu\u0161<\/a> and Sinji Vrh<\/a>.<\/p>\n The oldest record we have found to date for a person from this house is for Johan Fortun b. 1746. Together with his wife, they had at least 1 child, including:<\/p>\n 1A. Nikolaj Fortun b. 1773, m. ca. 1795 to Katarina Grenz — they remained at this house.<\/p>\n Nikolaj Fortun [1A] and his wife Katarina Grenz had at least 4 children, including:<\/p>\n 2A. Nikolaj Fortun b. 1795, m. ca. 1820 to Lucija Kobe — they remained at this house.<\/p>\n 2B. Johan Fortun b. 1800, died at the age of 70. At this time, it is unknown if he was ever married or had children.<\/p>\n 2C. Lucija Fortun b. 1807. At this time, it is unknown what happened to her afterwards.<\/p>\n 2D. Miha Fortun b. 1811. At this time, it is unknown what happened to him afterwards.<\/p>\n Nikolaj Fortun [2A] and his wife Lucija Kobe had at least 8 children, including:<\/p>\n 3A. Ana Fortun b. 1820, m. 1841 to Johan \u0160pehar (Dalnje Njive 15)1<\/sup>.<\/p>\n 3B. Johan Fortun b. 1824, m. ca. 1853 to Katarina \u0160pehar (Dalnje Njive 15)1<\/sup> — they remained at this house.<\/p>\n 3C. Katarina Fortun b. 1826, m. 1848 to Johan \u0160pehar (Dalnje Njive 1).<\/p>\n 3D. Marija Fortun .b: 1833, m. ca. 1863 to Nikolaj Kobe (Mihelov<\/a>).<\/p>\n 3E. Barbara Fortun b. 1837, had 1 illegitimate child — she remained at this house.<\/p>\n 1. Johan \u0160pehar and Katarina \u0160pehar were siblings.<\/em><\/sup><\/p>\n Johan Fortun [3B] and his wife Katarina \u0160pehar had 7 children, including:<\/p>\n 4A. At this time, it is unknown if he was ever married or had children.<\/p>\n 5D. Agnes Fortun b. 1901, m. 1922 to Matija \u017dalec (\u0160peharji 31) — they remained at this house.<\/p>\n 5E.
