While every house in Slovenia has a civic address, many houses also carry a household name. These names are how other people typically referred to that family. This house originally had the name of Fortunovi. This name is\u00a0 directly derived from the surname of the family that lived at this house.<\/p>\n

Without access to more historical information, we do not know what the surname of the family that previously inhabited this house was.<\/p>\n

Through the period of our studies, we have found only one house which originally carried the Fortun surname in Otok<\/a>. With the exception of the 2 households in Vukovci<\/a>, the Fortun surname is more commonly found in Damelj<\/a> as well as the Sinji Vrh Parish<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The oldest record we have found to date for a person from this house is for Marko Fortun (Priblanov<\/a> from Vukovci<\/a>) b. 1796. He married Barbara Medo\u0161 (Drenovec 9) b. 1804. At this time, it is unknown if they had any children.<\/p>\n

Marko Fortun m. ca. 1841 to his second wife Lucija \u017dagar. Together, they had at least 3 children, including:<\/p>\n

1A. Marija Fortun b. 1840. At this time, it is unknown what happened to her afterwards.<\/p>\n

1B. Katarina Fortun b. 1842, m. 1877 to a man from Fratrovci 5.<\/p>\n

1C. \u0160tefan Fortun b. 1846, m. 1867 to Barbara Mravinec (Hrast pri Vinici 20<\/a>) — they remained at this house.<\/p>\n

\u0160tefan Fortun [1C] and his wife Barbara Mravinec had 1 child:<\/p>\n

2A. Katarina Fortun b. 1868, m. 1891 in Allegheny, Pennsylvania to Franc Buba\u0161 (Gornji Buba\u0161ov<\/a> from U\u010dakovci<\/a>).<\/p>\n

With no one remaining in this house, the brother of Lucija \u017dagar, Jurij \u017dagar (Matkov from Damelj<\/a>) moved into this house with his wife Lucija Kobe (Dalnje Njive<\/a>) and the rest of his family.<\/p>\n

3C. Marija \u017dagar b. 1855, m. 1888 to Jurij Flajnik (Bro\u017ei\u010dev<\/a>) — they lived at Vukovci 27.<\/p>\n
