While most houses in Slovenia carry a household name, there are some houses which do not exist anymore and were deserted many years before anyone was aware of their existence. The household names for these houses is therefore lost as it was not documented anywhere either. In the case of some smaller settlements such as Ogulin<\/a>, Dre\u017enik<\/a> and Kova\u010dji Grad<\/a>, household names were never widely adopted as there was no need to differentiate families from each other. In the case of Kova\u010dji Grad, despite the fact that 4 of the 8 houses had people with the surname of \u0160utej, there is very limited repetition of surnames leading to the use of surnames as the “household name”.<\/p>\n

Through the period of our studies, we have found four distinct houses which originally carried the \u0160utej surname in Kova\u010dji Grad<\/a>. This is the last of the four houses (in order of house address).<\/p>\n

The oldest record we have found to date for a person from this house is for Matija \u0160utej b. 1775. Together with his first wife, they had at least 3 children, including:<\/p>\n

1A. Jurij \u0160utej b. 1809, m. ca. 1846 to Barbara Pavle\u0161i\u010d (Dolnja Ivan\u010deva<\/a> from Perudina<\/a>) — they lived at Kova\u010dji Grad 5<\/a>.<\/p>\n

1B. Peter \u0160utej b. 1812. At this time, it is unknown what happened to him afterwards.<\/p>\n

1C. Matija \u0160utej b. 1815, died at the age of 71 in Croatia. At this time, it is unknown if he was ever married or had children.<\/p>\n

Matija \u0160utej m. ca. 1819 to his second wife Ana Mihel\u010di\u010d (U\u010dakovci<\/a>). Together, they had at least 4 children, including:<\/p>\n

1D. Jurij \u0160utej b. 1823, m. 1846 to Katarina Radovi\u010d (Se\u010dje Selo 16<\/a>) — they remained at this house.<\/p>\n

1E. Barbara \u0160utej b. 1825, m. 1844 to Matija Mali\u010d (\u0160kolnik from Vinica<\/a>).<\/p>\n

1F. Marko \u0160utej b. 1827. At this time, it is unknown what happened to him afterwards.<\/p>\n

Jurij \u0160utej [1D] and his wife Katarina Radovi\u010d had 10 children, including:<\/p>\n

2A. Katarina \u0160utej b. 1844, had 2 illegitimate children which died in infancy.<\/p>\n

2B. Ana \u0160utej b. 1846, m. 1875 to Johan Flajnik (Hrast pri Vinici 12<\/a>).<\/p>\n

2C. Magdalena \u0160utej b. 1849, m. 1870 to Jo\u017ee Karin (Dolnji Karinov<\/a> from Podklanec<\/a>).<\/p>\n

2D. Barbara \u0160utej b. 1851, m. 1873 to Matija \u0160nelar (Polan\u010dev<\/a>).<\/p>\n

2E. Jurij \u0160utej b. 1856, m. 1881 to Ana Moravec (Makarova<\/a> from Podklanec<\/a>) — they remained at this house.<\/p>\n

2F. Johan \u0160utej b. 1859, m. 1884 to Lucija Maganja (Fratrovci 21) — they remained at this house.<\/p>\n

2G. Marija \u0160utej b. 1863, m. 1882 to \u0160tefan Kobe (Ivan\u010dev from Otok<\/a>).<\/p>\n

Jurij \u0160utej [2E] and his wife Ana Moravec had 1 child:<\/p>\n

3A. Ana \u0160utej b. 1887, m. 1906 to Ciril Trempus (Ogulin 9<\/a>).<\/p>\n

Johan \u0160utej [2F] and his wife Lucija Maganja had 2 children, including:<\/p>\n

3B. Johan \u0160utej b. 1885 in Fratrovci. At this time, it is unknown what happened to him afterwards.<\/p>\n
