While most houses in Slovenia carry a household name, there are some houses which do not exist anymore and were deserted many years before anyone was aware of their existence. The household names for these houses is therefore lost as it was not documented anywhere either. In the case of some smaller settlements such as Ogulin<\/a>, Dre\u017enik<\/a> and Kova\u010dji Grad<\/a>, household names were never widely adopted as there was no need to differentiate families from each other. In the case of Kova\u010dji Grad, despite the fact that 4 of the 8 houses had people with the surname of \u0160utej, there is very limited repetition of surnames leading to the use of surnames as the “household name”.<\/p>\n

Through the period of our studies, we have found four distinct houses which originally carried the \u0160utej surname in Kova\u010dji Grad<\/a>. This is the first of the four houses (in order of house address).<\/p>\n

The oldest record we have found to date for a person from this house is for Peter \u0160utej b. 1770. He married Ana Ostroni\u010d b. 1779. Together, they had at least 4 children, including:<\/p>\n

1A. Miha \u0160utej b. 1799, m. ca. 1845 to Marija Pavle\u0161i\u010d (Pavle\u0161i\u010deva<\/a> from Perudina<\/a>) — they remained at this house.<\/p>\n

1B. Helena \u0160utej b. 1809. At this time, it is unknown what happened to her afterwards.<\/p>\n

Miha \u0160utej [1A] and his wife Marija Pavle\u0161i\u010d had 3 children, including:<\/p>\n

2A. Barbara \u0160utej b. 1846, m. 1872 to Jurij Maljevac (Miki\u010dev<\/a> from U\u010dakovci<\/a>) — they lived at Vukovci 17.<\/p>\n

2B. Marija \u0160utej b. 1846, m. 1865 to Peter Flajnik (Belinov<\/a> from Perudina<\/a>).<\/p>\n

At this time, the original \u0160utej lineage ended at this house. In about 1846 Jurij \u0160utej (Kova\u010dji Grad 8) moved into this house with his wife Barbara Pavle\u0161i\u010d (Dolnji Ivan\u010deva<\/a> from Perudina<\/a>). Although we have not found evidence of this yet, it is very likely that these two \u0160utej families have a common ancestry.<\/p>\n

Jurij \u0160utej and his wife Barbara Pavle\u0161i\u010d had 6 children, including:<\/p>\n

3A. Marija \u0160utej b. 1848, m. 1868 to Matija \u017dagar (Medvedkin from Damelj<\/a>).<\/p>\n

3B. Matija \u0160utej b. 1851, m. 1873 to Ana \u0160nelar (Polan\u010deva<\/a>) — they remained at this house.<\/p>\n

3C. Miha \u0160utej b. 1857, m. 1885 to Ana \u017dagar (Fratrovci 2) — they lived at Vukovci 9.<\/p>\n

Matija \u0160utej [3B] and his wife Ana \u0160nelar had 6 children, including<\/p>\n

4A. Ana \u0160utej b. 1879, m. 1906 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to Jo\u017ee Mogu\u0161 (Jan\u010dani 10) — they lived in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.<\/p>\n

4B. Marija \u0160utej b. 1883, died at the age of 22. At this time, it is unknown if she was ever married or had children.<\/p>\n

4C. Jo\u017ee \u0160utej b. 1887, m. 1909 to Marija Filip\u010di\u010d (Fratrovci 20) — they remained at this house.<\/p>\n

Jo\u017ee \u0160utej [4C] and his wife Marija Filip\u010di\u010d had 9 children, including:<\/p>\n

5A. Jo\u017ee \u0160utej b. 1910, m. 1940 to Ana Verbanec (Bla\u017eeva<\/a> from U\u010dakovci<\/a>) — they remained at this house.<\/p>\n

5B. Ana \u0160utej b. 1912, m. 1930 to Marko Male\u0161i\u010d (Fratrovci 3).<\/p>\n

5C. Matija \u0160utej b. 1914, m. 1946 to Marija Sim\u010di\u010d (Ravidi\u010deva from Vukovci<\/a>) — they lived at Vukovci 29.<\/p>\n

5D. Marija \u0160utej b. 1919, m. 1967 to Karl Bevc (Podsreda 8).<\/p>\n

Jo\u017ee \u0160utej [5A] and his wife Ana Verbanec had 5 children.<\/p>\n
