According to a Urbarium <\/em>(tax register) of 1674, the village of Zilje<\/a> included a total of 12 H\u00fcbe or arable land divided amongst 19 Ziljani (inhabitants of Zilje<\/a>).\u00a0 Also evident from these documents is that the hamlets of Balkovci<\/a>, Pavlini<\/a> and Dejani<\/a> were regarded as being part of the\u00a0\u017eupa\u00a0(a subunit of the dominion of a particular Lord) of Zilje<\/a>.\u00a0 It is important to point out that these tax registers only list individuals who were subjects of the\u00a0Lord for whom the register was created.\u00a0 There were other individuals, along with their families, living in\u00a0Zilje<\/a> at this time.<\/p>\n

The 1674 Urbarium<\/em> names the following individuals residing in these villages and subjects to the dominion:<\/p>\n

Ivan and Peter Dejan \u2013 likely living in Dejani<\/a>
\nTome, Ivan and Jure Mureti\u010d \u2013 likely living in Mureti\u010devo selo<\/a>
\nJure, Mate and Tome Adle\u0161i\u010d
\nMihael and Jakob Jaketi\u010d
\nJure Krbavec
\nTome, Miko and Marko Stare\u0161ini\u010d
\nIvan and Jure Horvat
\nTome Balkovec (miller)
\nIve and Jakob Cveta\u0161i\u010d (millers) \u2013 likely living in Cveta\u0161evo selo<\/a><\/p>\n

If we look at Birth and Marriage Registers (mati\u010dne knjige<\/em>) kept by the Catholic Church in the late 17th<\/sup> century, we find surnames missing from this Urbarium, <\/em>suggesting these families were subject of a Lord whose Urbarium<\/em> has not be found, or they were free men and women. The following is a list of men mentioned in these earliest Birth Registers:<\/p>\n

The 1690 Urbarium<\/em> names the following individuals residing in these villages and subjects to the dominion:<\/p>\n

Birth and Marriage Registers of the mid-18th<\/sup> century begin to show new surnames:<\/p>\n

\nMatija Vrane\u0161i\u010d, 1774<\/p>\n

At the end of the 18th<\/sup> century, there were 27 households in Zilje. By 1820,\u00a0we can identify 38 individual households existing in\u00a0Zilje<\/a>.\u00a0 Some of these households, and the houses themselves, have since vanished.\u00a0 Others have been since created, usually as\u00a0delniki<\/em>, i.e. by partitions of a pre-existing household into two (or more) households.<\/p>\n
