Gornji (Upper) Podklanec is named with reference not so much to elevation, but to direction of flow of the river Kolpa (it flows from Upper Podklanec to Lower Podklanec<\/a>). This is the part of Podklanec<\/a> that is closest to Vinica<\/a>. Bordering Gornji Podklanec is Golek pri Vinici<\/a> which extends up to the church on \u017de\u017eelj.<\/p>\n

There are several houses in Podklanec<\/a> bordering Golek<\/a> that had switched designation from being a part of Podklanec<\/a> to becoming a part of Golek<\/a>. This has made clarification of who lived in these houses difficult which still has us trying to determine which family lived where. We are currently reviewing the land registers in order to come to a definite conclusion as to which houses switched villages.\u00a0 Presently, the houses under review are Podklanec 27<\/a>, Podklanec 34<\/a> and Podklanec 37<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The dominant surnames in Gornji Podklanec are Benec (4 houses), Moravec (3 houses) and Tomec (3 houses). This also relates well to the tax registers which shows Lovro and Jurij Benec (1674), and Ivan Moravec (1674) and Martin Moravec (1690) living in Podklanec.<\/p>\n

Other surnames that surface in these tax registers in 1674 (Lord of Vinica) are Belavi\u010d, Bori\u010dek, Dragina, Grgura\u0161, Karin, Kopriva Ku\u010dani\u010d, Lilak, Mere\u0161i\u010d, Miroslavi\u010d, Miselri\u010d, Mi\u0161i\u010d, Papa, Pecoj, Pi\u0161kur, Radmili\u010d, Radovi\u010d, Ribari\u010d, \u0160okan and in 1690 (Lord of Kruppa) are Beneti\u010d, Male\u0161i\u010d and Pi\u0161kur.<\/p>\n

Many of these surnames still exist if not as a surname, as a household name, ie. Ku\u010dan, Galtei\u010d and Mi\u0161i\u010d. This list only includes the families that lived under the control of a lord. There were those who were also free.<\/p>\n

Below is a list of the houses of Gornji Podklanec with both the original house numbers and today’s house numbers (if the house still exists). Also included is the household name (if known) as well as some of the surnames that lived at these houses.<\/p>\n
