While every house in Slovenia has a civic address, many houses also carry a household name. These names are how other people typically referred to that family. This house was originally known was the Dolnji Medvedovi. This name changed to \u017duglji when Peter \u017dugelj (\u017dugljov<\/a> from Zilje<\/a>) moved his family back from Pittsburgh and moved into this house.<\/p>\n

Peter \u017dugelj moved here just before World War I had begun after purchasing this property from the previous owner Johan Medved. Peter \u017dugelj had moved to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania years earlier to gain employment and also to marry his wife, which by some was believed to be an arranged marriage.<\/p>\n

Through the period of our studies, we have found three distinct houses which originally carried the Medved surname in Podklanec<\/a>. This is the second of the three houses (in order of house address). The Medved surname is only originally found in Podklanec<\/a> and across much of the Sinji Vrh parish<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The oldest record we have found to date for a person from this house is for Johan Medved b. 1750. He married Doroteja Pecoj (Podklanec 7<\/a>). Together, they had at least 2 children, including:<\/p>\n

1A. Johan Medved b. 1782, m. to Marija Belavi\u010d — they remained at this house.<\/p>\n

1B. Matija Medved b. unknown. At this time, it is unknown what happened to him afterwards.<\/p>\n

Johan Medved [1A] and his wife Marija Belavi\u010d had at least 5 children, including:<\/p>\n

2A. Marija Medved b. 1804, m. 1845 to Johan \u017depuhar (\u017depuharov<\/a>).<\/p>\n

2B. Ana Medved b. 1808, had 1 illegitimate child — she remained at this house.<\/p>\n

2C. Katarina Medved b. 1809. died at the age of 67. At this time, it is unknown if she was ever married or had children.<\/p>\n

2D. Johan Medved b. 1814, m. 1836 to Katarina Ko\u017ear — they remained at this house.<\/p>\n

3D. Barbara Medved b. 1859, m. 1879 to Nikolaj Karin (Gornji Karinov<\/a>).<\/p>\n

3E. Nikolaj Medved b. 1863, m. 1889 to Ana Flajnik (Belinova<\/a> from Perudina<\/a>).<\/p>\n

Johan Medved [3A] and his wife Marija Berkopec had 7 children, including:<\/p>\n

4A. Johan Medved b. 1864, m. 1889 in Stari Trg to Franca Ko\u010devar (Podlog 4) — they remained at this house.<\/p>\n

4B. Marija Medved b. 1866, m. 1888 to Johan Balkovec (Drenovec 10).<\/p>\n

4C. Franc Medved b. 1875, m. 1897 in Allegheny, Pennsylvania to Marija Pavli\u010d (Pribanjci) — they remained in the United States.<\/p>\n

4D. Jo\u017eef Medved b. 1880, died at the age of 21. At this time, it is unknown if he was ever married or had children.<\/p>\n

5A. Johana Medved b. 1899. At this time, it is unknown what happened to her afterwards.<\/p>\n

5B. Agnes Medved b. 1892, m. 1920 to Jo\u017eef Miheli\u010d (Mentanov from Vinica<\/a>).<\/p>\n

5C. Ana Medved b. 1899, m. 1921 to Franc Moravec (Gornji Morav\u010dev<\/a>).<\/p>\n

5D. Peter Medved b. 1901, m. ca. 1926 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to Jennifer Morel.<\/p>\n

5E. Jo\u017eefa Medved b. 1903. At this time, it is unknown what happened to her afterwards.<\/p>\n

5F. Kristina Medved b. 1905 in Ogulin 5<\/a>, m. 1931 in Kirkland Lake, Ontario to Franc Re\u017eelj (Mirna Pe\u010d).<\/p>\n

5G. Angela Medved b. 1907 in Ogulin 5<\/a>. At this time, it is unknown what happened to her afterwards.<\/p>\n

Between the birth of Jo\u017eefa Medved [4E] and Kristina Medved [4F], this family vacated the house at Podklanec 4 moving to Ogulin 5<\/a> which was owned by Agnes Ko\u010devar of Podlog 4 but had no inhabitants. Over the period of about a decade, Peter \u017dugelj had been sending money home to his old brother Matija who arranged for the purchase of this property which facilitated the move their move back to Slovenia in 1914.<\/p>\n

Peter \u017dugelj (\u017dugljov<\/a> from Zilje<\/a>) m. 1906 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to Katarina Pavlakovi\u0107 (Krznarova from Vukova Gorica). Together they had 11 children, including:<\/p>\n

6A. Helena Zugel b. 1909 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania,, m. 1927 to Johan Kajin (Gornji Kajinov<\/a>).<\/p>\n

6B. Ana Zugel b. 1910 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania,, m. 1928 to Franjo \u010cavrag.<\/p>\n

6C. Mary Zugel b. 1911 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania,, m. 1932 to Franc \u010cadoni\u010d (Ivi\u010din<\/a> from Zilje<\/a>).<\/p>\n

6D. Peter Zugel b. 1912 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania,, m. to Ana Kralj (Hrsina 38).<\/p>\n

6E. Johana Zugel b. 1914 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania,, m. 1934 to Mika Ivanu\u0161i\u010d (Nadbregov<\/a> from Valeti<\/a>).<\/p>\n
